Exploring the Impact of Group Support Psychotherapy at the WFP Regional Congress in Rome

On October 18-19, 2024, SEEK-GSP’s own Professor Ethel represented our organization at the WFP Regional Congress on Psychotherapy, Creativity, and the Arts held in Rome, Italy. This prestigious event, organized under the patronage of the Sapienza University of Rome, the World Association of Dynamic Psychiatry (WADP), and the World Federation for Psychotherapy (WFP) Psychotherapy Section, brought together experts from around the world to discuss innovations and intersections between psychotherapy and the arts.

During her presentation, Professor Ethel introduced SEEK-GSP’s Group Support Psychotherapy (GSP) model, highlighting its success in treating depression among vulnerable populations, especially in forced migration contexts. GSP has been a game-changer in addressing mental health issues in regions where traditional psychotherapy models may not be as accessible.

Her presentation emphasized how Group Support Psychotherapy, through peer support and group dynamics, helps to build resilience and offers an effective, scalable solution to combat depression. The therapy model has gained international attention for its ability to foster community healing and collective recovery, especially in trauma-affected populations.

As we continue to push forward in our mission of making mental health support accessible, SEEK-GSP is honored to contribute to global conversations like those held at the WFP Regional Congress. The feedback received from experts during this event reaffirms the importance of community-driven mental health care as we move toward a future where no one is left behind.
